Note: Current recommendations are that when there is an outbreak of C. diff in a number of patients, then it is recommended that healthcare providers clean their hands with soap and water instead of an alcohol-based hand rub after caring for a patient with C. diff. When there is not a C.diff outbreak, then healthcare providers can use either alcohol-based hand rubs or soap and water after caring for a patient with C. diff. See SHEA Update
